Custom CNC Machining of an Aluminum Case for the Military Industry
YARGER Precision Machining provided the CNC machining for this 7075-T6 aluminum case, which is used by a military client for an explosives application. Manufacturing, which included CNC turning and milling, required the use of special fixturing which was designed and fabricated in-house.
The CNC turning process required a rough turning and boring of the inside diameter, as well as facing and turning of the outside diameter. CNC milling was performed on a horizontal mill and included milled slots as well as drilled and countersunk holes. Finishing consisted of a Mil-spec chromate coating as well as etching, and the application of fast drying enamel paint. The finished part featured and O.D. 8.000", and I.D. of 7.060", and was 7.309" long. We manufactured 3,500 of these parts, which all met tolerances of ±.005", that was verified through CMM inspection. Penetrant inspection was also performed to confirm structural integrity.
